Dr Donald Davidson is currently a MRC Senior Non-clinical Research Fellow in the MRC Centre for Inflammation Research. A medical graduate who chose to pursue an academic scientific research career, Donald undertook his PhD at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, and postdoctoral training in innate immunity research at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, as a Wellcome Trust International Fellow. In 2004 he joined the University of Edinburgh and established an independent research group funded by a Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellowship. Donald’s research group studies the immunomodulatory antimicrobial properties of host defence peptides against pathogenic bacteria and viruses in vitro and in vivo. Donald is married with two primary school age children. He has strong interests in early career support, being instrumental in establishing both the Little France Postdoc Society and Postgraduate Society, and is enthusiastically involved in public engagement work.
